Don't use the clutch for 5th

I know this suggestion may sound strange to some you unless you've driven a big rig (truck) before, but this is the best way I've found to slip mine into 5th gear.

It is not necessary to use the clutch if you slip it into 5th when the engine and transmission are synchronized. That is .... the mid-point between acceleration and deceleration. Just EASE off the throttle and EASE up the gear shift and it will slip into 5th smooth as silk.

When I first got my '96 model I was beginning to think it was a four speed till I started using this method.
